Obake no Q-Taro Wan Wan Panic

I received a copy of this game through retro game treasure and became curious on where the idea for the game came from. I ended up finding out that it was a popular Japanese manga series that published in 1964 – 1966 and again from 1971 – 1974, then there was some anime series adaptations that ran from 1965 – 1967m 1971 – 1972 and from 1985 – 1987. This game was released in December of 1985 so I’m guessing it was tied in with the 1985 – 1987 anime series.

This was never released in North America as Q-Taro was not popular over here. They did broadcast the series (dubbed) in the United States in the 1970’s as Little Ghost Q-Taro, but it wasn’t successful so they did a sprite swap with the game and released it as Chubby Cherub in North America instead. Also as a side note, the ghosts in Pac-Man were inspired by Q-Taro.

I hope you enjoy the video as well.
