One of the few free shows that actually has value to it I would say is jazz for the people which happens to be at the public library in my area. They have different artists performing monthly and today’s audience is over 250 people. Not bad for a hall that looks to hold about 300 people.

So far I’ve been to two performances now and each time there was an intimate performance that interacts with the audience at a level you can only have in a small hall like this one. Sometimes you will hear some original songs but for me there’s been a lot of arrangements of other people’s music being performed. But you’ll always get a story that goes with that song, something to give you a more in depth view of the song they’re about to perform. For somebody like me this really helps as i don’t normally listen to jazz, I’m more of a hard rock person but I’ve heard of some of the shows and movies that some of these songs are from.

The drummer is the only consistent person I’ve seen so far as he’s normally giving the audience info about upcoming performances asked who’ll be the next special guest to perform. A few months ago they had a performer that was celebrating his 100 birthday by performing and says he’s looking forward to performing again.

Tonight’s performance has been a lot of show tunes ranging from my fair lady to the theme from moon lighting with some others songs like “have you met miss Jones?” but they don’t have a singer tonight so this all works.

I think everybody should see what community shows like this is available around then and check it out, even if it’s not you’re normal musical taste of its free you should go and give it a shot. You can see what musical talent is in you’re city. There’s always a bunch of talent around you just need to look for it.
