Black Eyed Barbie

Full Band

With the name Black Eyed Barbie, I wasn’t sure what I was in for. Then I heard them do their sound check and I started thinking, this is going to be good. At that time their main single was Whiskey in a Teacup so I heard parts of that during their sound check and it was solid. I was wanting to hear more from this large 5 piece band from Burlington, ON.

So now it’s their time to perform, and what I was hoping came true. They are a solid band that has kind of a classic southern rock and new age country feel to it (as most newer country songs are more of a rock feel with country vocals now). This could be played to their advantage as now their sound can be everywhere, I feel that you should be able to go to almost any type of venue and be able to see Black Eyed Barbie perform there. It could be a blues, country, or rock festival and they should be there.

Now you might be wondering “why the name black eyed barbie?”. I went looking around myself and found the answer on their website. Now this is only part of the story but one of the band members has a background in crisis counselling, while having a meeting with a mother her little girl was playing with toys and at the end of the meeting they realized she had been drawing black eyes on all the dolls. So they asked why, the little girl replied “this is what mommy looks like when daddy comes home from work”. Nobody knew anything and that simple doll told a story, giving insight to what was going on and was able to offer help to that family.

Normally I would go through and talk about a couple of songs but instead I’m going to share a playlist on Spotify to my indies list and there’s 3 songs there that I like by Black Eyed Barbie, so you can check them out for yourself. If you like what you hear make sure to follow them on Spotify and they’re active on Facebook as well.

If you have any suggestions for other bands you think I should check out, please let me know either on Twitter or email below.
