I recently had a chance to see Ruby’s Revenge again and pickup a copy of their new album Visions. I always enjoy their show but now I have a chance to review their new album for you, and here are my thoughts on it.

I’ve listened to Visions a couple of times now and I’m not disappointed. I’m enjoying where their sound is going and there’s a couple of songs that are now in my daily playlist, and some that I didn’t enjoy as much.  Most of the songs have that raw, garage band sound to it (Head in the Sand, Perspective, Understated Love), and then there’s some that have a large full sound (Hot Mess, Buzz Kill).  I’m not saying this is bad as I’m a fan of both, but there are a couple of songs I think could have been mixed differently, arranged different or something, as it feels like something is missing but I’m not sure what.  But over all I do like this album, and I feel big things will happen with Ruby’s Revenge.

Now I’m not ranking any of the songs I talk about and I’m not giving a score for this album as everybody has different tastes and I’m sure mine is different than a lot of other people, the best way to see what you think is to check them out for yourself and see if you either agree or disagree with my thoughts.  So with saying that I’ll say my thoughts on 3 songs off Visions.

Buzz Kill

Buzz Kill is the track that was played on Y108 in Hamilton Ontario during their new music showcase.  I like the grunge feel to this song, Sam E has a nice catchy, crunchy riff that works well with Ruby’s vocals.  It makes be feel like I’m back in the 90’s with Hole, Bif Naked, and The Smashing Pumpkins.  I think this song is nice and catchy, the main riff stays in your head.  I think this is a good choice as their first single from the album.

Hot Mess

Hot Mess I think would be the perfect follow up to Buzz Kill.  The song has a nice full sound to it, and catchy as hell.  I’ve had this song stuck in my head all day at work.  Although I’m a little curious what they would do as a video for this song, they could have a whole story that goes along with the song that could be awesome.  This has a different feel than most of the other songs in the album, it is full of energy and keeps me wanting more after the song is done.

Understated Love

First I think this song is in the completely wrong spot on the album, it has a nice slow intro that calms you then goes in a completely different direction.  Basically pick one of your normal love drama movies and the song you would hear at the peak of the movie when your protagonist realizes what they need to do, this would a song you would hear during that montage of them changing, or at the end of the that odd movie when you get to the resolution and everything works out perfectly.  With saying that I think this song should have been the last song on the CD.  I’m a fan of how this arrangement flows as there’s a whole build up with a big finale.

These are my thoughts on this album, if you would like to check them out they’re on Spotify, YouTube,  iTunes, Instagram, and Facebook.  Also if you get a chance to see them in concert you should diffidently go and check out their show.
